Storytelling with Animation and Video

Video is a vital tool for connecting nonprofits with potential supporters.

Whether it’s long-form interviews, short-form animated pieces, or branding ads for streaming video platforms, I’ve done it—often using in-house tools and talent—to reach over 1MM prospective donors.

Brand Management – Hero Complex

Putting the Times‘ legacy brand at the forefront of the geek culture boom.

The Los Angeles Times had incredible access to the creators behind some of the world’s most popular genre entertainment…but most genre fans had long-since stopped reading newspapers.

Working with an amazing editorial team, we took an obscure entertainment news blog and turned it into an award-winning, multimedia brand with a national footprint that included an annual film festival, star-studded Q&A screenings across the US, and a regular presence at the country’s biggest comic and pop cuture conventions.

Hero Complex hosted a 10-city simulcast preview of “Oblivion” followed by a live Q&A with Tom Cruise in April 2013.

We frequently took our show on the road, activating at conventions and festivals in NYC, Chicago, and San Diego.

Pushing The Boundaries of Print – LA Times

Our advertisers wanted new, more “exciting” creative opportunities. It was my job to invent them.

Innovation was a crucial part of my work at the Times. We had to find creative new ways to make our advertisers stand out, then sell those ideas to both our clients and to our (often skeptical) partners on the editorial side of the organization.

Protecting the editorial integrity of our journalism while continually raising the bar with innovative new placements and ad designs was quite a balancing act. But it gave me an opportunity to dream big…and helped change the way advertisers looked at this “old school” media property.
